Monday night recap, January 13, 2020

Hi,

Great meeting last night, presentation by yours truly regarding the making of picture frames.  We went through the basics of cutting, routing, clamping and mounting a picture for a handmade picture frame.  Great feedback from the membership, awesome tips and tricks from everyone.

Next week, Greg Wallace from Kilian Tools will be at the club, Greg makes and sells Nanograin carbide woodworking tools.  As well, from our conversation last day, we’ll also be taking about feather boards, everyone is encouraged to bring in your feather board or if you have another method, bring it in so everyone can see it.

Attached is an article found in the current issue of Wood magazine (issue #266, March 2020) regarding 3-D illusion cutting boards, I thought it might be an interesting read for the membership.

The Scouts are back this year, Mike Kellar is looking for volunteers to help with the Kub Kars program, current dates booked are January 22nd, January 28th, February 5th, February 12th and February 18th.  If you can help out, please contact Mike directly.  Note, when the Scouts are in the shop, the regular open shop night or turning night will be cancelled, the calendar will be updated.

Welcome to a new decade, we’re excited to start a new year.  We had a great meeting last night, a number of awesome gallery items brought forward by the membership, they’ll be posted on our Instagram page, as well as our web site.

Mike Kellar reviewed with the membership a few of the ongoing community projects and several new additions to the club library.  Thanks Mike for the update.

Hi,

Fantastic meeting last night, it was standing room only, great to see everyone.  We were treated to an awesome router presentation by Don MacLean, Don reviewed a number of routing basics for the membership.  We had full audience participation, there were a number of great questions from the membership, which generated a lot of information on the topic.  Thank you Don for taking the time to put together a wonderful presentation.

John McDonald mentioned during the Q&A portion of Don’s presentation a specific YouTube channel to find interesting information, below is the link for Wood Work Web, specific for the router.  This channel has a number of good clips to pull information.

Next week, will be our last club meeting for the season, as we’ll be breaking for Christmas.  We’re going to have a holiday themed coffee night, please be sure to bring holiday treats for the group.  As it’s our last meeting of the year, we’ll also be holding our first official Annual General Meeting.  As well, Chris Lapine will be conducting a demonstration on the speed square, proper use, as well as multiple uses for the speed square.  It should be a good discussion.

We are in need of volunteers to help take down a pipe organ, we have been asked by a family in Whitby, the husband passed away and the family needs our assistance.  If you can help, please let me know.
