Monday night recap, January 20, 2020

Great meeting last night, our guest speaker Greg Wallace with Kilian Tools discussed the benefits of carbide woodturning tools, as well as, the various materials that he uses with his carbide tools.  Greg’s company, produces several carbide turning tools, which he brought several samples, it was a great discussion, the feedback was extremely positive.  If you’re interested in learning more about carbide turning tools, Greg’s web site is www.kiliantools.com and his email address is contact@kiliantools.com.

Following our guest speaker, we had a good discussion regarding feather boards and methods to hold down material when using a table saw, bandsaw or router table.  Thanks to Noel Green for bringing in his feather board examples, as well as, his jig to cut 45 degree angles using a table saw and sled.  Great discussion and awesome tips from the membership.

Note, the shop will be closed this Wednesday evening as Mike Kellar will be hosting the Scouts Kub Kars program.  If you can help out, please contact Mike directly.  Additionally, Mike has requested on behalf of Sopher Creek Animal Rescue that should anyone have any gently used clothing that is not being used, please feel free to donate it for the Sopher Creek program (drop off to the club), deadline is February 10th.

I’ll be sending out a separate email from the Simcoe Street United Church, they are fundraising for repairs to the church roof in conjunction with Little Caesars Pizza.  It’s a great way to support the church and eat great pizza.

We have several dozen metal magazine holders that the club is no longer using, members can pick them up free of charge at the club, they are sitting on a table outside the entrance to the shop (in the hallway).  Please note, that the magazine holders will be donated to the Oshawa library by next Monday, if you would like any, please pick up before the next club meeting.

Please note, due to church regulations, the club is not permitted to store wood with bark in or around the shop.  If you have any barked material in the shop, please remove it immediately.  That being said, several pieces have been found in one of the rooms without any identification, it is available for pick up on the same table as the metal magazine holders.
